Newborn Sold to Pay Medical Bills: Karachi Police Recover Baby, Clinic Sealed!

Loading

In a deeply disturbing incident that has stirred outrage across Karachi, a woman was allegedly forced to sell her newborn baby to pay off medical bills at a private clinic in Memon Goth. Police confirmed that the infant has been safely recovered and reunited with his family, while the clinic in question, ‘Zehra Clinic’ has been sealed.

What Happened?

According to Malir District Police, the incident came to light when the newborn’s father, Sarung, filed a complaint stating that his wife had delivered a baby boy at Zehra Clinic on October 5. Due to financial hardship, the family was unable to pay the amount demanded for a cesarean delivery. The attending doctor allegedly introduced a woman named Shama, claiming she would cover the expenses and “raise the child.” After the delivery, Shama reportedly paid the bill and took the baby with her.

Days later, Sarung discovered the truth and reported the incident. The FIR was registered under Section 363 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Prevention of Trafficking in Persons Act, 2018. The case has now been transferred to the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC).

Recent Updates

Police investigations revealed that the newborn had been transported to Punjab, where a successful operation led to his recovery. “The child has been reunited with his real parents,” confirmed Malir SSP Abdul Khaliq Pirzada. He added that the main suspects, Dr Zehra and Shama Baloch, remain at large but will be apprehended soon.

Authorities suspect the existence of a wider trafficking network preying on low-income families through such clinics. The shocking case has sparked calls for stricter regulation and oversight of private medical facilities operating in Karachi’s outskirts.
