The Sindh Food Authority (SFA) has mandated the immediate withdrawal of 11 snack products from a private company after the Karachi University’s food testing lab declared them “unfit” for human consumption.
The affected products include Slanty Vegetable, Snackers Hot Masala, Snackers Pizza, Twitch Classic, Potato Sticks, Cheese Ball Masala, Cheese Balls Cheese, Kai Korean Hot, Kai Spicy Mala, Kai Mala Wok, and Kai Korean Kimchi.
SFA Director General Muzamil Hussain Halepoto announced the recall and directed the company to remove these products from the market within three days or face legal action. This recall follows a detailed examination by the Food Testing Laboratory at the University of Karachi, which found the snacks failed to meet safety and quality standards.
The company had applied for the registration of 24 products, submitting samples for lab testing and safety audits. However, the test reports dated April 19 revealed significant safety violations, deeming 11 products unsafe for consumption. The SFA issued an order under the Sindh Food Authority Act 2016, citing the necessity to prevent a potential public health crisis.
The company has been instructed to halt production and sales of the affected products immediately and provide detailed information about the existing stock within three days. The SFA’s letter also mentioned the company’s right to appeal the order within a week.
The SFA continues to urge other provincial food authorities to monitor similar issues to safeguard public health. The company has yet to issue a public response regarding the recall.
